For years Danish designers lived in the shadows of modern masters like Arne Jacobsen and Hans J. Wegner. Today this has radically changed, and the design scene is again flourishing. On our walking tour we will show the best of classic and contemporary Danish design, from teapots, typography and chairs to hotels and cafés.
Sofas, chairs, bicycles, teapots and door handles – Design plays a big role in Danish culture and in Copenhagen we will show you the way to our favorite design shops and tell you the story behind the many Danish design successes.
Right now Danish Design is going through an exiting period and the city is boosting with interesting design from the old functionalistic masters like Arne Jacobsen and Hans J. Wegner to young innovators like Stilleben and Hay Cph.
We will start the tour showing the world’s first design hotel The Royal Radisson made by the functionalistic star architect and designer Arne Jacobsen, who among other artifacts created the famous “Egg” chair for the lobby. Further we will move on, showing among other things bicycle design at Sögreni, the expressive chairs of Finn Juhl and the classic and poetic paper lamps of Le Klint as well as the eclectic postmodern universe of The Royal Café.
Our tour will take you through the beautiful neighborhood of the old city and we promise that beside a great design- and shopping experience we will tell you all we know about Copenhagen’s trendy spots, providing you with a lot of inside knowledge on cool bars, chill outs and smashing restaurants. The exact content of the tour might differ slightly from tour to tour.
